GNOWANGERUP CRICKET CLUB

Ernest Corbett was a keen cricketer and Gnowangerup's first cricket match was arranged at Telyarup with him as captain, against Dad Stutley's team. Cricket games were popular in the district, some had been held at nearby Martinup since the 1880’s.

A cricket match between Rockview and Gnowangerup Cricket Club was played in March 1911 at Yougenup. Gnowangerup players were victors with a score of 146 (Millbank 49), H. E. Porteous 21 Bickford Bell 51, made by vigorous cricket, 48 of the number from 12 boundary strokes. Rockview made 76. H. Noonan 36. W.Collins 18. Val. Hinkley bowled-splendidly for Rockview, taking five wickets for only 12 runs.
